a. Note:   Mary Whalen's sister was named Rose. Mom visited Rose and her mother in 1938 in Middletown, and they were living on High Street. She arrived unexpected, and they let her in, surprised to see her. The mother was blind, and felt mom's face. They wanted to know whether her step mother treated her well. Had no interest in her father Michael Parlato.
  Mary Whalen and her sister worked as nurses, where she met Michael Parlato. Mom thinks it was at the Grace Hospital in New Haven, but isn't certain. That's literally all she knows about her mother and their family.
