Note: There are few places where I have found a reliable indication of which is his first name. The 1860 census (Taken late on 8 June1861) lists him as "Infant Alley female age 2 months b. Va (WV)". The first is the 1870 census where he is listed as "B. Everett" age 10. The best is the marriage license to Julia Frizzell in Boyd Co., KY. This document also shows that people knew him as Everett not Bell. On the first line his name is written Everett Alley with Bell filled in above Everett at the beginning. After that it is written Bell Everett in that order and he signs it "Bell, Everett Alley". "Everett Alley" was first signed on the dotted line. "Bell" was obviously added in the margin, followed by a comma, which normally indicates that the order of names is reversed. The L. E. Alley, Sr. Family Bible writes his name Everett Bell Alley. It is possible that "Bell" is his first name but I am not sure. Since he always went by "Everett" and "Bell Everett" has not been found written anywhere else I have chosen to record it as "Everett Bell". His second wife Julia's maiden name is Burgess. Everett was in Richmond Co., NY in 1910. This would be when he was supervisor of the construction of the railroad yards on Staten Island. He was also supervisor of the construction of the railroad yards in Baltimore, which accounts for some of the children being married and living there. I, Lawrence, III saw the Baltimore Camden Yards, just as redevelopment had started to tear them down around 1978. ÙCbÙDObituary Notice Alley Suddenly Dies At Glendale ÙC/bÙD E. Note: NF11
Note: Why Everett married in Rowan Co. is not known. Several distant cousins are there in the 1880 census. Cyrus Alley a 4th cousin one time removed was married there 2 years later, also in May. Thomas Alley, Sr. (3), born 1690 is the common ancestor, who died 106 years before. The 4th cousins are Alfred Stone Alley, John Jackson Alley and an older Cyrus Alley. There were many Roberts in the county who could have been related to Millicent's mother.
