Notes
a. Note:   The 1891 census of Ashland, KY was taken by order of the city council at a meeting held March 2, 1891, by Sol Norton, enumerator. In Block 88 is E. Alley with 6 in the household. Thus Millicent was alive later in March when they got to Everett's residence.
Our Family knew very little about Millicent Ann Napier's family. Lawrence Alley, Jr. remembered being told this about Millicent and her family. His father, Lawrence Alley, Sr. lived with his Uncle John Napier, near Hazard, Kentucky, after his mother, Millicent, died in March of 1891 until the time that his father remarried February 18, 1892. (11 months later) Many years later (around 1936) he went back to Hazard, in Perry County, Kentucky to see if he could find any of the Napier's. Before he got into town he was directed to an old man, (about 75) a John Napier, who had lived in Colorado for a number of years and then returned to Kentucky. He had a silver mine up in the hills. Lawrence went to his mine and found him there. John asked him what he was doing there, and Lawrence replied, asking if he had known Millicent Napier. After thinking for a while he replied, "Oh, you mean Millicent Ann." He then quickly recognized Lawrence, since this was his Uncle John.

According to family tradition told by my father, Lawrence Alley, Jr., Millicent Ann had a half sister who married a Moore that was part owner of a hardware or general store in Hazard KY. It turned out that there is not a half sister with the maiden name Moore. Millicent's mother Martha married a Moore, but only had 3 sons and no daughters. In 1880 Wolfe Co., KY census none were named John, and census records don't exist after 1880 until 1900, to know if there are any other children of the second marriage. There is a John Moore, born 1869, living with the David Hogg family in Wolfe Co. listed as "Works on Farm". Part owner of the Hazard Hardware Company at that time was Price (PC) Napier. Price's father is a second cousin to Millicent Napier. Research in county records shows that a Moore was not other owner.
We also knew that Everett and Millicent lived in Boyd, Kentucky. This was all I had to go on in tracing down her parents back in 1980. It wasn't until I started searching on the Internet in 2005 that I finally found that on 7 May 1881 she married Everett in Rowan County, Kentucky. In June of 1880 she was across the Ohio River in Ironton, Ohio working as a servant in the household of S. N. Suedicor. This 1880 census records her as Millie Napier age 17. In 1870 Millicent is in Estill County, Kentucky with her family. Her mother is now married to Zachariah Moore, and living with them is her grandmother, Susannah Roberts age 68. John, age 11, the brother who had the silver mine is there. Some of the relatives knew that Millie's father, William, was killed in the Civil War fighting for the Confederates. Or put more correctly he was murdered while a prisoner. In 1860, before Millicent was born her parents, William and Martha, are living in Perry County, Kentucky with the three oldest children where they were married.

Note:   Why Everett married in Rowan Co. is not known. Several distant cousins are there in the 1880 census. Cyrus Alley a 4th cousin one time removed was married there 2 years later, also in May. Thomas Alley, Sr. (3), born 1690 is the common ancestor, who died 106 years before. The 4th cousins are Alfred Stone Alley, John Jackson Alley and an older Cyrus Alley. There were many Roberts in the county who could have been related to Millicent's mother.
