Note: The Bond descendants knew that the Russell name was originally Ruschel in Germany. Either William or his father was the original immigrant.
William Russell is listed in the 1810 Monongalia Co. census with a son the right age to be George. I found no listing in the county in 1820. George appears in the county in the 1830 census. This is the only evidence that he is the father. The William in the 1820 Tyler Co. census is likely another William; there is no son the right age to be George. William may be the man in his 70s living with George in the 1840 West Monongalia Co. census. This would make his birth date 1765 to 1770. George is listed 10 years too young in 1840. The following are in Monongalia County Court records: 15 December 1806, $0.63 was paid to executeing the State warrant of William Russel vs. Robert Willson. William Russell is a juror 11 August 1808. There is a deed from Thomas Russell and Nancy his wife to John Fairfax in October 1815. Thomas is not in census records.
William and George Russell are the only Russell families in Monongalia Co. in census records from 1810 through 1840. There is a Wm Russell in the city of Baltimore in the 1800 census (01101 - 10100). He could be the one in Prince Georges Co., MD in 1810. More information is needed. Susan C. Bond's descendants thought the Russell family came from PA. However, they incorrectly thought that the Bonds also came from PA.
