a. Note:   Mary is living with Andrew in 1850 and Joseph in 1860. The 1850 census indicated she was born in PA, The 1860 census is unclear, "Mc". Nc for NC is the best interpretation since the N looks just like the M in all lisgtings. NC is often not repeated in 1870 lists, and thus not reliable. However, her children in the 1880 census llist their mother's birth place. One says PA and the other says VA, and by VA they mean WV.
