a. Note:   The four sons of Rachel moved to Ohio about 1843, based on the birth places and marriages of the children. The census listings of the 1843 to 1845 birth places are not consistent, varying between OH and PA. The daughters who were married came a few years later. Rachel and Barbary, who were not married, probably came at this later time. Jonas was the only son married in PA.
  The 1820 to 1840 census listings match her 8 children perfectly.
 John and Rachel live in Morgan Co., VA in 1820. 3 males <10, 1 female <10
 Rachel, age in 30s, was head of household in Berkeley Co. VA in 1830. She lived close to her father-in-law, John Sr. males 2=10-14, 1=15-19, females 2<5, 1=5-9, 1=15-19
 In 1840, she lived in Washington Twp, Fayette Co., PA. males 1=5-9, 2=20-30, females 2=10-14, 1=15-19, 1=20-30, Rachel 40-50. Next to her is Jonas 20-30 and wife & 1 dau <5, census page 233
 1850 census in Monroe Co., OH. lists John Shimp, 20, along with his mother, Rachel, 55, and daughters Susanna, and Barbary living together.
 In 1860 living in Belmont County, Washington Twp, is Barbary Shimp, who has married William Weekley. Rachel Shimp, 65, is living with them.
 Not found in 1870 census.
 The exact birth and death dates and the place of death from Bertha Weekley Alley's DAR papers have not been verified.
  The DeHaven family claims that Jacob DeHaven loaned the government $450,000 to support the Revolutionary War. See this story at Jacob DeHaven, b. about 1733.
