a. Note:   John Shimp applied for a Revolutionary War pension, R 9511, on 10 May 1835 in Berkley Co., VA and stated that while residing in Calico Township, Lancaster Co., PA, he served in 1777 for 3 months under Capt. George Fetter, in Colonel Elderson's Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia and was in the battle of Chestnut Hill; and again served 3 months under Capt. George Fetter. The claim was rejected because it was not proven that he had served the required six months.
