a. Note:   The 1870 census lists him as Joseph B., but his daughter Mona said he and the other boys had no middle names. She said that their father just gave them nicknames instead of middle names. Looking at other genealogies on the web it appears that she may just have been unaware of the middle names. The birth record of their third child lists him as Jefferson.
  James Ramsey, known as Pa Ramsey by the family, lived with Jeff and Molly after their marriage for the rest of his life. Pa's wife died in 1882.
  Smithton is now Smithburg. The Bonds told me that the name was changed because there was a Smithville in West Virginia.
  Parkersburg is the hospital where death occurred; the residence was in Smithburg.
