a. Note:   In 1850, 1860 and 1870 the Doddridge Co. census records her birth in VA. However her parents were in Washington Co. PA at the time. She was young enough when they moved to Harrison Co., VA that she may not have known where she was born. In 1870 they are living with their son John and family.

 A Thomas Smith married an Elisabeth Smith on 11 February 1802 in Harrison Co., WV. Married by John Denham. (Harrison Co. included Doddridge at that time.) From WV marriage records. The year recorded for the marriage agrees with the marriage bond dated 9 Feb 1802.
 All indications are thet this marriage date is for another couple. She would only be 11 years 3 months old. She started having children, at age 18, approximately every 2 years in 1809. Births continue until she is 43 years old. This verifies a 1790 birth date. Census records agree with the recorded birth date which is on her gravestone.
