Note: Jacob changed the spelling of Alley to Allie, in the late 1800's. John's family in Boyd Co. told me it was because of a dispute over land with John, his brother. One report that I have seen is that a boundry marker was moved, but it may have been about the large amount of land that John had accumulated. It must have been his way of disowning the family. His 1891 Marriage record still used the Alley spelling. Most of his children only used the Allie spelling for awhile and reverted back to Alley.
After Mellisa died, two additional marriages are listed for Jacob. I doubt that the first one occurred, but there is a letter indicating the second did occur, and that the family did not approve. There is also a deed from Jacob Alley & Mary Agnes Malloy Alley dated 18 November 1891 selling land to 9 of his children.
