a. Note:   Thomas is not listed in the family of John & Ruth in the 1870 census and he was born before the census was taken. However, his death record confirms his parents.
  There is a Thomas Shimp, son of Mary in the 1870 census born in WV. In the 1880 census of Clay Dist of Marshall Co. 12 years old, stepson of Franklin Clegg. His wife is Mary, age 32. Their first child was born in 1873.
  "He was the youngest son of John Wesley Shimp and Ruth Shutz Shimp of Moundsville, West Virginia. He married Frances Hannah Peters in Moundsville, West Virginia on Sept. 7, 1890 and resided with her in Moundsville. They had six children, three boys and three girls.
