Note: In the 1900 Leatherwood, Perry Co. census Ashford is listed as a widower, even though Elizabeth is still living and listed in the census with the other younger children. She is also pregnant with Jasper. Only Wilson and Martha are in Ashford's household. Note that they were born before the marriage date. It is probable that they are not Elizabeth's children. Elizabeth is in Hazard, Perry Co., KY

Note: Ashford left Elizabeth and lived with Polly and they had children but they never married. I guess it would be a common law marriage but what happens if he never divorced? The family always got along as far as I know. Ellen my half-sister told me her grandmother Elizabeth used to go and help Polly all the time. It bothered Ellen and she questioned Elizabeth.
