a. Note:   Patrick B. Napier is the way the name is found in 1840 Harlan Co. KY census records. The name is also in several family trees as Jerome Patrick, b. 1804 in Montgomery Co. d. 1852, with his wife being Mahala Strong, but I have not found a source for that name. The birth place and death date conflict with the Patrick B. information. Jerome without the Patrick middle name does appear several times in various Napier Families.
  In the 1830 Harlan Co. census Patrick has moved from his parents home, some distance away, and is living next to his father-in-law Gabriel Jackson. He has a daughter under 10, his wife is 15 to 19 and he is 20 to 29 years of age. This is the only evidence that Mahala is Gabriel Jackson's daughter.
  Several rootsweb sites have Mahala Fugate as the only wife. (None document the source.) Others have Mahala Jackson as the only wife. The marriage of a Patrick Napier is documented in Perry Co., KY on 28 September 1839. However these original records do not have the Bride's names; they have been lost. Researchers have added the names Mahala Jackson and Elizabeth ___ from other sources. This makes it look like the marriage book has a duplicate entry. Elizabeth is with another Patrick in the 1850 Perry Co. census. This is Patrick R. the nephew of Patrick B. I found her name on the web as Elizabeth Price. Patrick B. only had one wife and the original entry is only for Patrick (R.) Napier. The 1860 and 1870 Perry Co. census prove the wife of our Patrick was named Mahala.
  John Roberts is the father of Martha Matilda Roberts who married Patrick's son William David Napier. In the 1830 Perry Co. census Patrick's brother is living near William's future father-in-law John Roberts. This part of Perry was Clay Co. until 1821. In the 1820 Clay Co. census John Roberts is also there.
