Note: Ellie was born and grew up in New Bedford, MA. She was an only child. Her mother had a very difficult time during her delivery and her parents decided not to have any more children. After graduating from the New Bedford High School in 1955 she decided to become a nurse. She got her RN degree at The New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Boston in 1958. At the same time she attended Boston University and received a Masters Degree there. Ellie was asked to teach at New England Baptist Hospital immediately after graduation and never actually did any nursing. She also lead a student Bible study at the school. She taught at the school until a year after getting married. When Ellie was a student some of her friends were attending The College Career Club (CCC) at Tremont Temple Baptist Church in Boston and invited her to go. Ellie and her family had always attended church. However, the message of forgiveness and salvation made possible because of Jesus' death on the cross was not made clear. At Tremont Temple she found out what being a Christian was really all about. She continued to attend the Church until 1969, a year after we married. Ellie had various leadership positions in the College Career Club. After she started teaching at New England Baptist Hospital, some of her students attended the CCC group, which made it awkward for her. She stopped coming, and started teaching the 2's and 3's Sunday School, and was in charge of the preschool department. She went to some regional seminars to learn to be a better teacher and continued teaching the little kids until 1968. Eventually some of us in CCC decided we were getting too old for the group. About six of us got together and formed The Single Set for single young adults. Ellie was in the organizing group. We got to know each other and started dating, 6 years after our first date! See Lawrence's section for the rest of the story. She was my friend, my companion, my lover, and my wife for 35 great years. Ellie was a friend of the students, librarian, substitute teacher, and doer of anything that needed done at Brockton Christian School and Bethel Christian Academy. She actively worked in God's ministry affecting the lives of many at The Evangelical Congregational Church of Easton in the earlier years of marriage. Later at Christ Community Church, Ellie was a Bible study teacher, Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) leader, active in women's ministry, children's Sunday school, VBS, and helping people in ways most of us will never know.
