Notes
a. Note:   "My mother Eva Marie (Colburn) was a school teacher until she married my Dad. " --Mary Spitzer Chatham in a letter (no date) but believed to have been written in 1990-91 when Ben or Sarah Chatham were doing a family history in Middle school at Grand Rapids, MN. (GMC)
The following is a quote from the Lamar Daily News, 8 Jan 1942. "Mrs. Eva Marie Spitzer, 41, of five miles southwest of Wiley, died at 8:15 P.M. Wednesday at her home. She had been ill for six months. She was born in Lamar and had lived in this community all her life." "Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Wiley Brethren Church with Rev. Ford officiating. Internment will be in the McClave cemetery with Kirkpatrick-Duggan mortuary handling the arrangements." (Harry Spitzer)
My earlist memories of my mother was when she was fighting cancer. In those days we wore one piece underware with a flap in the rear to let down when we had to go to see Mr. Jones (the outhouse) to go to the bathroom. The only person I would let button my rear was my mother. The night she pass away I was apparently sleeping with her and I remember my oldest brother Harold carring me upstairs to bed and I was throwing a fit because I wanted to stay with mother. I didn't fully understand at her funeral why there was so many car's following us and why my siblings told me that they was putting mother in that deep dark hole. At the time I was only 5 years old. --Submitted by Harry F. Spitzer.
