Note: Born in Ray County, MO Eli moved to the Big Bend area of Colorado with his parents in 1906 and lived in the area all of his life. Services for Eli Franklin Spitzer, 82, long-time Wiley resident, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at First Christian Church with Randy Ingmire, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in McClave Cemetery with Almont Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Spitzer will lie in state today until 5 p.m. at Almont Mortuary and Wednesday until service time.
Spitzer died at La Junta Medical Center Friday following an illness of about one year.
Born Dec. 7, 1898 in Ray County, Missouri, he came to the Big Bend area of Colorado with his parents in 1908 and lived in the area the rest of his life.
He married Eva Marie Colebourn at Wiley June 1, 1921 and she preceded him in death January 7, 1942. Spitzer retired in 1962 from farming.
Survivors include seven sons: Harold and Edwin of Nampa, Ida., Clyde and Lloyd of Wiley, Richard and Robert of Denver and Harry of Lamar; four daughters: Mrs. Vernon (Mary) Chatham of Springfield, Mrs. Alex (Thelma) Schibblehut of Granada, Mrs. Ifred (Lola) McElroy of McClave and Mrs. Ed (Norma) Boggio of Farmington, N.M.; three brothers, Luther of Canon City, George of Greeley and Isaac of Richmond, Mo.; a sister, Sarah Cline of Canon City; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren."
