a. Note:   Samuel Hayes was living with his wife Isabella (Wynn) on Burleigh Street, Sunderland East, when Thomas Wynn was born in1843. His occupationwas listed as "tailor".
  At the time of the Marriage of (son) Thomas Wynn to Ann Milton, Samuel was living at Howick Place. His occupation was still listed as "tailor".
  In 1861 He was living on Burleigh St. in Sunderland. He was a widowerliving with his unmarried daughter Hannah (aged 21) and unmarried sonThomas Wynn (aged 16). At that time his occupation was listed as "Tide Waiter" A Customs Officer who boards ships entering port in order to enforce customs regulations."A sword cane with a brass collar reading "Samuel Hayes; HM Customs; Sunderland 1819 (or 1849) is owned by Ralph Hayes.
  In the 1871 Census, Samuel, aged 72, was living with his son Thomas, wife Ann and their children.
  Samuel died between July and September 1871 at the age of 72. That would put his birthdate in 1799.
  The 1841 and 1851 Census show his occupation as "Tailor"
