Note: cause of death: cancer of rectum Leslie, I noticed that Thomas had quite a family. I?ll bet there is a great story hidden there. I found some interesting stuff after talking with my Father and researching the data available on Ancestry.com. In the 1920 Census I find the information that you referred to in your earlier email. - Nelson M. Parnell, Age 56, Living at 245 Russell Street, Manchester, NH (an address my Dad recalls ? He believes that he lived there as a young boy) Living with Nelson M. is: -Jennie M. (Mae), Wife, Age 49 ? My great Grandmother. My dad remembers he well. She was a widow and my Dad remembers visiting her at her apartment in the Carpenter Hotel in Manchester, NH. He would visit her after school regularly until she died, he was the one who found her when she died. When NMP died in the late 20s he left Jennie in a good financial condition. My Dad has a lot of stories about her that I will document for my records. Listed on the Census with NMP and JMP is: -- Elizabeth M. Daughter, Age 16 (This is my dad?s aunt Betty). Her married name was Corish. She was married to Robert Corish and they have three son?s Robert, William and Benjamin. They moved to the Washington DC area as Robert (her husband) worked for the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. My dad remembers spending summers with his cousins (Billy, Bob and Ben) at their cottage on Boars Head on Hampton Beach in the late 30?s and early 40?s (dad was born in 1932) ? He also remembers writing to her up until she died several years ago. -- John W. Parnell, Son, Age 10. This is my grandfather. I don?t find NMP in the 1930 census and my dad knows that he died before he was born in 1932, so for now I?ll say that he died in the 1920?s and I?ll verify that with local research. What I do find in the 1930 Census is John W. Parnell, Age 20, listed as Head of Household with Jennie Mae Parnell, Mother, Age 58, living at 128 Harrison Street in Manchester, NH (the database is wrong, they show this as Goffwtown, NH but the actual document reads Manchester, NH) ? This is my Grandfather living with my great Grandmother. Between this date and 1932 JWP met my grandmother Lenore Gobis and my father was conceived. They were married as a result and had John W. Parnell Jr. (my Dad) on May 11, 1932. The story is; my Grandfather married ?below his station? and was shunned by that Family. The Gobis family was from the ?wrong side of town?. Listed in the 1930 census I find: F.O. Parnell, age 67, living at 327 Orange Street in Manchester, NH (another address my Dad recalls). I?m almost certain that this is Fredrick Oakley Parnell. Listed with him are: Mary L., Wife, Age 57 Priscilla, Daughter, Age 19 Caroll A., Son, Age 37 Nelson W., Son, Age 33 In the 1930 census I find: Thomas Parnell, Age 30, living at 319 Prospect St. Manchester, NH (another address my Dad recalls). I have a sneaking suspicion that this is one of F.O.?s son?s. My father thinks that his grandfather (NMP) had a brother Thomas, now I think it was NMP?s cousin. Listed with Thomas is: Marion, Wife, Age 24. Dad remembers that NMP and his brother Thomas owned the Parnell Bros store in Manchester, NH. I believe that NMP and FOP were the owners and when NMP died in the 1920?s Thomas, FOP?s son, joined him at the store. I find in the City of Manchester Directories NMP and FOP listed with the Parnell Bros Store. I also find in the 1930 Census both TP and FOP listing Salesman as Occupation with Grocery as the Industry. That is all I can handle for now. My wife is glancing at my over the ?honey do? list and wondering if I?m going to get off this computer and get something done today. My dad is excited about this now that he is partially retired, he had time to hit the Manchester City Hall to help with the research. I?ll keep you posted. Tom
