Note: Sherbrooke Daily Record September 19, 1944 Ayer's Cliff-- The many friends here were indeed shocked when on Sunday morning they learned that Mr. Howard Hartwell had passed away while at his work in North Hatley where he and his wife have spent the summer preparing to return to their home here on Monday. It will be remembered that their only son Pte. Ernest Hartwell is in service overseas and they received word only a few weeks ago that he had been injured and had lost one eye. To Mrs. Hartwell and Pte. Hartwell the deepest sympathy is expressed and also to his brothers and sisters. The funeral was held at St. George's Church here on Tuesday, with burial in North Hatley cemetery. His death occurred at the Matheson Hotel, North Hatley where he had and Mrs. Hartwell had been employed during the summer. Survived by his wife and son, Pte. Ernest Hartwell who is overseas.
