  Sudden Illness Takes Life Of A.G. Johnson Last Thursday Night
  Was Beloved Civic And Religious Leader In His Community
  A.G. Johnson, prominent Lanett insurance man and civic leader, died suddenly at his home last Thursday night at 10:40 o'clock of a heart attack.  Ill only a few minutes, the 46-year-old World War I veteran died before a physician could be summoned.  Complaining of a pain in his chest, his wife called the family physician, but Mr. Johnson was already dead when he arrived.
  A native of Chambers County, Mr. Johnson spent most of his life in this section.  For several years he was connected with Batson-Cook Company, but during more recent years he had been affiliated with the Mutual Savings Life Insurance Company.  He was active in religious and community affairs.  A member of the Lanett Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Masonic Blue Lodge, and also a Royal Arch mason.  He was one of the leaders in the Lanett Masonic Lodge.
  Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Derritt Johnson; one son, Charles Johnson, U.S.N.; one daughter, Mrs. Horace Bailey, Norfolk, Va.; a step-son, Ted Saxon, U.S. Navy; mother, Mrs. C. M. Johnson, Siluria, Ala.; three brothers, Allen, Shawmut, Henry, Siluria, and Albert Johnson, Lanett; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Harris, Shawmut, Mrs. Ernest Dillard, Montgomery, and Mrs. Clarence Harper, Rock Mills; a half-sister, Mrs. Bones Hill, Atlanta, and three half-brothers, Lee Johnson, LaGrange, Will Johnson, Prattville, Ala., and Lon Johnson, Cordele, Ga.
  Masonic funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Lanett Methodist Church with the Rev. E. B. Ogburn officiating.  Burial was in the Shawmut Cemetery with Schnedl-Jones in charge of arrangements.
