Edward Rogers, 37, was killed by a single shotgun blast to the abdomen, according to Ken Ray Chief Deputy at the Newton County Sheriffs Department. Selman Jones Mobley, 31, of the Old Salem Community north of Deweyville has been arrested and charged with the murder in connection with the case Ray said. The chief Deputy said Mobley was denied bond by Aaron Hopkins, Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace in Newton County. The suspect was in the Newton County jail today in Newton. The two men apparently were involved in a dispute at about 8:15 pm on the side of the Hwy 87 when the shot was fired, Ray said. "There was an altercation of some sort and Rogers wound up dead" he said. An autopsy was performed at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Ray said. Death was due to the gunshot wound.
