EDWIN PUTTOCK - Signed by the said Edwin Puttock the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses - WALTER MELLERSH Godalming Surveyor HAROLD BAVERSTOCK Melrose Godalming Land Agent. 1923/10/?? Percy Remnant, who lived opposite Common House, remembered the windows being removed from Common House to allow Edwin's body to be removed, since the undertakers were unable to negotiate the narrow staircases. 1925/02/20 On the 20th February 1925 Probate of this Will was granted to Frank Balchin and Arthur James Lovelace the executors. Property of £4965 17s 11d gross / £2726 3s 9d net was split between his wife and four daughters on his death. It would appear that the property was sold to an Admiral on Edwin PUTTOCK's death. Subsequently, after the war, the property was sold to the late Geoffrey NEWMARK, who was still resident as of 1998, but has since died. Arthur James Lovelace (solicitor above) was born ABT 1880 in Cromer, Norfolk, the son of James and Catherine Lovelace, the proprietors of the Belle Vue Hotel, Cromer. By 1901, Arthur was an articled clerk aged 21 of Cromer. At some stage, he moved to Godalming. However, there is no known family connection to the Puttocks, as there was with Frank Balchin.
