She was the widow of Mr Edwin Puttock, the last of the male line of a family of yeoman farmers that had been connected with Duns- fold for well over 400 years. For generations, the family lived at Common House, a pic- turesque old residence in the village. Mr Puttock died 10 years ago. Four daughters survive. Mrs Puttock, who was greatly esteemed by many friends, was a daughter of the late Mr T. M. Berridge, of Ryde House, Ripley, where for many years he was the principal of a school carried on there. She was an energetic worker in connection with many parochial organisations, for years had regu- larly helped to decorate the Parish Church for festivals, played the piano at social gatherings, and assisted at the stalls at vil- lage fetes and sales of work. Mrs Puttock, who will be much missed in the parish, was a member of the Mother's Union and of the Women's Institute. THE FUNERAL There was a large attendance at the funeral at Dunsfold Church on Wednesday, when the Rector (Rev. A. E. Hollins) offi- ciated, and gave an address, referring to the old and valued associations of the family with the parish. Two of Mrs Puttock's favourite hymns, 'Nearer, my God, to Thee' and 'The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended', were sung. As the cortege left the church, the Rector, at the organ, played 'O rest in the Lord'. The internment was in a corner of the churchyard where only mem- bers of the Puttock family are buried. The grave was lined with ivy and daffodils by Mr G. Cousins, as a tribute of affection from the Rectory. The chief mourners were Mr and Mrs D. Lane, Miss L. Puttock, Mr and Mrs A.G. Copping and Mr and Mrs R.J. Sadler (sons-in-law and daughters), Mr and Mrs C. Berridge (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs Julian (niece, representing Mrs Green, sis- ter of Mrs Puttock), and Mr J.A. Sadler. Others present were Mrs Hollins, Mrs Verschoyle, Mr and Mrs Freeman, Mr F. Balchin (Godalming), Miss Durrant, Mrs W. Day, Miss Underwood, Mrs T. Under- wood, Mr G. Harrison, Mrs E. Smithers, Mrs Hoath, Mrs F. Waller, Mrs W. Hawk- ings, Mrs Aylward, Mrs Farmer, Miss E. Mitchell, Mrs Hendry, Mr H. Soper, Mrs Ranger, Mr A.F. Copping, Mrs B.L. Lin- tott, Mrs Covey, Mr and Mrs J. Voller, Mrs G. Voller, Mrs Ede, Mrs A. Watler, Mrs Collins, Miss E. Mansfield, Mrs E. En- tincknap and Mrs Renmant. There were many beautiful flowers from the family and other relatives and friends. The family of the late Mrs Puttock wish to thank all friends for their kind sympathy and for the beautiful floral tributes. 1935/11/02 Admin to Clara Edith Lane effects £170 14s 11d
