Note: {geni:about_me} (Excerpts from Legacy.com guestbook) Entered into rest Friday February 1, 2002 in Fremont, age 56. Born July 5, 1945 in Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was a self-employed metal engineer. He donated blood regularly to the Red Cross. Alan enjoyed helping people in trouble, fishing, hiking, reading science fiction, and smelling flowers. He was a giving person and was always taking in the world around him. Beloved husband of 25 years to Barbara Charnley of Fremont. Loving father and father in law to Rebecca Charnley of Fremont and William Glen and Zina Clare of Georgia. Devoted son to Scottie Charnley of Olympia, Washington. Dear brother and brother in law to Vicki and Larry Tavares of Sonora, Karen and Michael Morgan of Monterey, Kathy and Don Dusart of Weimar, and Gail and Paul Schwarz of Washington. Cherished uncle of Susan, Penelope Morgan and Robert Tavares. Alan will certainly be missed by all that had the honor to know him and share a moment with him during his life. How I enjoyed conversations with him whether they were, informative, political, religious or just plain playful and humorous. I'll miss his smiling face but I will remember it! Alan was a really special person -- the world really needs more people like him. He was one of those people who always had time and energy to help others. Why he could come home tired after a long days work, yet if anyone needed assistance he would go out of his way to help. The most wonderful thing about his giving was, he never felt he was going out of his way to assist. Someone needed something, he was just there with his good ideas and skills to get the job done. He was such a observant and considerate person. I remember one time the Charnley family came to visit Mom and Dad. He noticed that there was a little problem with the front stairs. The next thing you know he's tackled the project and fixed the steps ... and it wasn't a simple matter after all ..he found dryrot in some of the supporting wood... and by noticing and fixing he probably saved someone from a painful accident. He was a loving soul, who lived by example, the highest Christian values. He seemed to know the Bible backwards and forwards and tried to live his life according to the lessons taught therein. If everyone in the world were as giving and honest as Alan, we would have far fewer problems living together.
