Note: {geni:about_me} KENNETH R. JOHNSON 89, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away quietly on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in the home of his daughter, Dale Sharon Gunther, of Kansas City, MO. Ken was born in Muskegon, MI, January 12, 1921, son of George and Goldie Johnson. They later moved to Parchment, Michigan. He had 4 brothers, 2 of whom, Clair and Clayton Johnson, have preceded him in death. He was a star athlete at State High School in Kalamazoo, MI graduating in 1938. He was an outstanding baseball pitcher at Western Michigan University from 1939 to 1941. He served as a pilot in WW II. After the war, he worked at Clark Equipment Co. in Battle Creek, MI. In 1950 he moved his family to Pittsburgh, PA where he worked as a Parts Manager of Material Handling/Linsley Enterprises until 1986. He and his wife Leila were married, September 12, 1941, and spent many of their 68 years together vacationing on South Manitou Island in Michigan and 20 winters in Gulf Shores, AL with family and friends as well as traveling in 49 states. Ken was an avid golfer and bowler for many years. He shot his age in golf many times. He loved to take pictures and print them on his computer and share them with friends. He made special greeting cards for family and friends on his computer too. Ken is survived by his wife, Leila, son, Dr. Keith (Sue) Johnson, Fullerton, CA and daughters, Carol (Chuck) Moffet of Charlotte, NC, Eileen (Merrill) See of Kalamazoo, MI, Dale Sharon (Paul) Gunther of Kansas City, MO, He is also survived by two brothers, Milton (Trudy) Johnson of Walnut Creek, CA and Douglas (Jae) Johnson of San Pedro, CA, 11 grandchildren( Kenneth Ray II preceded him in death in 1999), 6 great grandchildren and many step grandchildren. Funeral services were held at LIFE STORY FUNERAL HOME in Plainwell, MI on Saturday March 20, 2010 and burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell, Michigan. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Community of Christ Church, 3321 Wexford Rd., Gibsonia, PA 15044.
