  Roger Donald Riddle wrote:
 Susan C. (Caroline) Shatley was related to the owners of Shatley Springs (Father and Mother????). I can remember Great Grandma Yates (Susan) at Aunt Virgie and Aunt Effie's houses. My father has many fond memories of Grandpa and Grandma Yates. Grandma Yates was a gentle woman form my memory.
 At an age of about 88, she had her appendix taken out.

  It is noted in the named source that the names and birthdays of Sarah, Susanna, Rose, Sherman, Winfield, and Ida (their adopted daughter) was taken from the 1870 Wilkes County and the 1880 Ashe County, North Carolina Census Records. Ella's and Troy's were taken from delayed birth registrations issued by the state of North Carolina. Records # 396 and # 586, in the Ashe County Court House.
