Note: Buried in the Taylors Valley Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia. {Roger Donald Riddle, "Yates Family History (cir 1996)."} Written by Roger Donald Riddle: [Rumors have it that Lafayette Yates like to have a drink once in a while. My father (Theodore Roosevelt Riddle) recalls the time when Grandpa Lafayette and Grandma Susan Yates lived with their daughter Virgie Yates Parker and Grandpa Yates found (?) a bottle and was soon passed out, uncle Charlie Parker (Aunt Virgie's husband) picked grandpa Yates up and laid him across his shoulders and carried him back to the house.] {Roger Donald Riddle, "Yates Family History (cir 1996)."} Roger Donald Riddle also wrote: [Grandpa Yates is said to have at one time, while driving a horse and wagon, seen his father's ghost. He is said to have driven that house and wagon for all he was worth. L. F. (Lafayette) Yates is said not to have had to work too hard in his lifetime. Aunt Virgie stated that Lafayette was a millwright.] {Roger Donald Riddle, "Yates Family History (cir 1996)."} The following was also noted in the referenced document, written by Roger Donald Riddle: [In the Family Bible (Now in the possession of Aunt Virgie) there are listings for the births of W. M. Neaves, L. D. Neaves, James Oscar Neaves, Booker Neaves, Florta(?) May Neaves, and Russell Neaves. These are possibly the children of L. F. (Lafayette) Yate's half sisters by: Birdie Nancy Yates (married James Mitchell Neaves) and Ludema Yates (married William Allen Neaves) Birdie Nancy Yates and Ludema Yates were the children of Eli C. Yates and his second wife Rosmond DeBoard.] {Roger Donald Riddle, "Yates Family History (cir 1996)."} Picture (in scrapbook) of Lafayette and Susan Yates - lists the children as Effie, Ada, Arthur, Birdie, Phoebe, Virgie, Bessie, Eulas, Lessie, and Mary on the front row. All the names matched with my information, some using shortened forms of their names, except for Eulas. I'm not quite sure of this one. I'm thinking it must be the middle name or nick name of Riley, I will try to verify this. [Notes on the back of a picture in the possession of Charles and Ruby Wilson. This is a remastered picture sent to Charles and Ruby Wilson from Eddie Coppolino]
