 1928: Obituary: "JUDGE WHEAT'S MOTHER DIES ON SUNDAY MORNING. Had Been An Invalid for 33 Years; Funeral Tuesday Afternoon. -- Naomi Victoria Wheat, widow of the late W. R. Wheat, died Sunday morning at 7:20 o'clock, at the home of J.O. Warner of the Blaine road, where she has made her home for the last two years. She had been an invalid for thirty-three years from rheumatism. Her condition became serious shortly after Christmas, and she failed rapidly from that time.
 "The deceased was a daughter of Daniel and Debora Ann (Carpenter) Tucker, and was born in Shelby county, Indiana, June 6, 1849, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 78 years, 7 months and 8 days. She came with her parents to this county when she was a child, and has resided here since that time.
 "She was united in marriage to William R[eynolds] Wheat, February 9, 1872, who preceded her in death, July 6, 1925. She is surved by a daughter, Mrs. Leona Jay, of this city, and one son, Roscoe D. Wheat, Judge of the Jay Circuit Court. Another son, Arthur E. Wheat, was killed in an accident at Gisborne, New Zealand, July 25, 1927. There are four living grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
 "She is also surved by one brother, W. H. H. Tucker, of LaSalle, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Viola Wallace of Richmond, Indiana; a half-brother, Fred Tucker, of Traverse City, Michigan; and a sister, Mrs. Clara Smith of Ft. Wayne.
 "The body was removed to the Baird funeral home, where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral. Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Baird chapel, in charge of Rev. E. E. Trippeer, pastor of the Portland M. E. Church, assisted by Rev. Hugh N. Ronald of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be made in Green Park Cemetery." Source: Probably the Portland, Jay, Indiana newspaper.
