She ran a restaurant in Portland, Indiana, and would watch the newspapers for jobs. She also cleaned houses for people. In old age, she lived with her son John W. Wheat. She had to sleep in the same bed with her granddaughter Dorothy A. Wheat. She later married again, to Fred Bunge.
