Continued: 1998 Obituary: On Tuesday, June 30, 1998, the following obituary appeared in the Fort Wayne (IN) Journal-Gazette on-line edition. Her death took place on June 28.
"Portland
MARY EDMUNDSON BOOKOUT, 83, died Sunday at Portland Community Care Center West. Born in Grant County, she was a sales clerk for G.C. Murphy Co. for 38 years. Surviving are a son, John Gegenheimer of Bensenville, Ill.; two daughters, Carolyn Via of Swansea, Ill., and Connie Henkle of rural Portland; two brothers, Harland Blankenbaker and Max Blankenbaker, both of Portland; a sister, Mona Keen of rural Bryant; two stepsons, Darl Bookout of Muncie and Hurley Bookout of Fort Wayne; a stepdaughter, Vecil Heniser of Portland; nine
grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 20
step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband,
Leo Gegenheimer, in 1941, second husband, Ralph Edmundson, in 1982, and
third husband, Cleo Bookout, in 1995. Services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at
Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home, Portland Chapel, with calling from 2 to
8 p.m. today. Burial in Green Park Cemetery. Memorials to the Mary Helen
Strohl Education Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church."
