Note: In 1942, per WWII Draft Card, unemployed in Texarkana, Texas. Rev. Sidney McClung Dies Services were held this mornng at Enimerson's Mortuary for Rev. Sidney Rexford McClung, 64, who died yesterday following lengthy illness. He and his wife had resided at 911 Alta street. Rev. McClung, a native of Waldo, Ark., was a retired Baptist minister. His sermons and missionary preachings were heard by thousands in the Southwest; during his four decades in the ministry. Prior to entering the ministry, having been ordained at First Baptist church of Italy, Texas, in 1920, he was in the legal profession in Dallas. He passed the Texas bar in 1914. For many years he served as missionary for the Baptist Missionary association of Texas, Arkansas Baptist association and as Interstate Missionary for the American Baptist Association. He was author of two books on Baptist history and doctrine— The Bride" and 'The Second Coming." In 1947 he organized the Calvary Baptist church of Coachella. He leaves his wife, seven children, 16 grandchildren and three brothers and five sisters. Services were conducted by Rev. B. B. Garrison and Rev. Larry Reeves, of the Emanuel Missionary Baptist church of Redlands. Burial was in Hillside cemetery. Rex McClung was organized in the missionary’s home April 20, 1947. The church purchased property in 1950 and built a beautiful plant in 1957. The following have served as pastor: Charlie Brown, May 4, 1947 - March 19, 50; M. L. Goodnite June 28, 1950 - March 6, 51; Ora J. Holloway July 3, 1951 - April 12, 53; Uriel Woody September 2, 1953 - December 1, 54; M. R. Canfield August 3, 1960 - March 11, 62; Shady Burdette May 13, 1962 - August 24, 75; Gerald Mercer December 14, 1975 - June 5, 77; Bill Whala October 2, 1977 - October 13, 78; Shady Burdette's second time December 1979 - 85; Don Kallner 1986 - 95. The church left the Old State in 1995.
