Note: Obituary for Melvin "Jerry" Atkins Melvin "Jerry" Atkins, 68, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015 at his home in Duson, surrounded by his family. He was a driller in the oilfield until retirement and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Sherry Shuff Atkins; three children, Brian Gotreaux and his wife Dawn G. Gotreaux, Mechelle G. Crochet and her husband Brett Crochet and Melvin "Jerry" Atkins, II; eleven grandchildren, Zachary Crochet, Miguel Gotreaux, Isaac Gotreaux, Simon Gotreaux, Julie Beth Gotreaux, Nathanael Gotreaux, Juliana Gotreaux, Christiana Gotreaux, Camilo Gotreaux, Noble Gotreaux and Ariana Gotreaux; his mother, Clara Marie Bourque Atkins.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Robert Atkins; and one sister, Bonnie Miller.
