 On the 2nd of December 2000, descendants of Confederate soldier James Napoleon Brown were honored with Crosses of Military Service and the National Defense Medal. Soldier Brown was in Co. E of the 27th Regiment, Louisiana Regiment. Dorothy Brown accepted the Cross and certificate, awarded posthumously, in honor of James Alton Brown, Sr.
