a. Note:   ved in Brown County from 1877 to 1879. Occupation, farming. Weak and feeble. Never recovered from an attack of small pox he suffered during the War. Served in Co. H. of the Louisiana Regiment from July 1, 1861 to the end of the war. J. A. Norrid claimed to have known Johu all of his life and confirmed his service record. In 1861, Norrid was residing in Bienville Parish, Louisiana.

  An oath of allegiance to the United States of America signed by Joshua Leamons (spelled this way MWL) on June 28, 1865 was included in the file. He enlisted in Dick Taylor's Brigade. Originally servied under Col Hodg, Lieutenant Col Stafford, Capt Walker; then, Lieutenant Fred Gray, I W Melton, B C Shively; after the spirg of 63 was with Ambulance train, Capt Preston, Orderly Brannon. He contracted small pox in the fall of 62 which settled in his left leg and ruptured some of the veins which had ulcertated to such an extent that he was not to bo work but very little. Complexion florid, hair black, eyes light hazel, height 5 ft. 5 3/4 in., born Louisiana, occupation farmer, Res. Brush Valley, La., age when enlisted 26, single.

  The Louisiana 9th Infantry among those referred to as "Jackson's Foot Cavalry" and "Lee's Tigers". Joshua belonged to Company H, Brush Valley Guards, Bienville Parish, Louisiana.
