Drew's father, John, died when he was 6 mos. old, he's not known much about his Leamons relatives. Drew was born & raised in Turkey Creek, LA. Could Andrew Jackson possibly be the uncle who corresponded with Grannie Lizzie--she said he lived in Rapides Parish--somewhere out from Alexandria, LA? Sure wish some of those letters had been kept. Was a witness on Abraham Norrid & Alice Elliott's marriage license in Red River Parish, 1873." (apparently from Millicent's notes, MWL) Notes for HENRY KING LEAMONS: 28 Dec 2001 Duke Gossage with Louise Leamons LL (my mother, Louise Leamons Gossage) said that the parents of her father (HK Leamons) died when he was about 5 years old; that HKL went to live with and was raised by his sister, Mae. LL said she knows that HKL had another sister, but she never met her nor heard her name mentioned. She did hear that she was a red head. LL said that Mae was married twice and that she did not know her during her first marriage. Mae was first married to Jessie Cobb and they had a son also named Jessie. LL does not know if Mae's first husband died or if they were divorced. Mae then married J. P. Phyland. LL knew him and called him Uncle Hop. She believes they lived in Alexandria, LA. LL estimates that Jessie Cobb (the father) was born abt 1880 and died 15 Nov 1916. (from Sheila Johnson's notes)
