Married Name:<_MARNM> Mamie Ida Rothmeyer - Mamie was my grandmother, and lived until I was 17 years old. I was the last of her grandchildren she got to see get married. Mamie lived in a nursing home of sorts, but was able to come and go as she pleased. No matter where we lived, she'd show up, riding the Greyhound Bus Lines, which us kids called "Grandma's school bus". I remember many things about her.... She loved to play Canasta, and taught me how to play when I was very young. (Her favorite word was "speculate", for many years, I thought it was a dirty word.) At one time, she had a craving for sulphur, so she'd light wooden matches, and eat the tops after they'd burned. Grandma liked to sew, and made many of our clothes and quilts when I was a kid. She smoked Camel cigarettes without the filter. My Brother Jamie, and grandma, were great friends, and loved to fight with each other. Grandma never had a driver's licence, nor cared to have one, but she was a first class back seat (or front passenger) driver. She was very protective of her "girls", be they daughters or granddaughter's. When I was 15, she lived with us, and I was going to go swimming at the next door neighbor's pool. I had on a really skimpy bathing suit, and Grandma decided I needed to cover up some. When I tried to leave the house without a bathing suit cover, she hooked my arm with her cane, and made me put on a long shirt, and shorts. Grandma was at my wedding in 1976, and she had a black eye. She'd defended a woman named "annie" at the home she lived in, and fought with some woman named Mary. Grandma ended up with the black eye, wonder what Mary ended up with.... haha! This was in May 1976, and Grandma was 72 years old. She died 4 months later. OBJE: C:\America Online 4.0\download\debipics\mamie.jpgMy grandmother, taken 1956
