HISTORY OF BIENVILLE PARISH VOL. I
BELL, Henry Jackson Henry Jackson BELL 1866-1951) s/o Emily Brown Bell Ebart (1839-1927). Grandparents were James BROWN (1800- 1894) and Mary LeMOYNE (1805-1895) She was born Ohio, his birthplace not known. Henry Jackson Bell married Nancy D. OLIVER (1871-1920) d/o Larkin Oliver (1829-1901) and Elizabeth BROWN. Their children were: Henry Jackson (Jackson Henry), Minnie, Lavinia, Edna, Tennie Lee, Eli, Nola, Oma, Mamie. (pic of Reagan and Cloteal Bell, 5 generation pic of Minnie Bell Alexander, Albert Alexander, Henry J. Bell, Emily Bell Ebart, Doris Alexander)
He "adopted" his mother's deceased husband as his father, but according to one member of the family, his father was a Chestnut and he was named "Jackson" after his father. Kinchen Chestnut of Brush Valley, Bienville Parish, Louisiana had a son named Andrew "Jackson" Chestnut, born in 1844. Chestnut didn't marry until 1869. He could be Jack's father. MWL
  Notes for HENRY JACKSON BELL:
Ezekiel Bell, it is obvious, can not be the father of Henry Jackson since Ezekiel died June 11, 1863. Ezekiel's widow, Emily , did not remarry until June 2, 1869. Information handed down in my family says Henry Jackson's father was a Mr. Chesnutt.
Henry Jackson Bell was a well-known animal doctor and rancher and horse breeder of the Mt. Olive Community near the Bienville-Jackson Parish line. Horses were brought to Henry to care for from as far away as Alexander, Louisiana. It was said the ability to care for animals was very natural for him. This natural ability was passed on to his grandson, Delbert Carlton "Dugan" Bell.
Henry Jackson Bell (1866-1951) was the son of Emily Brown Bell Ebart (1839-1927) and his grandparents were James Brown (1800-1894 ca) and Mary Lemonye (1805-1895 ca) early Bienville Parish settlers. The James Brown family is listed on the 1830 Claiborne Parish Census. The 1850 census states that James Brown was born in state "unknown" and Mary Brown was born in Ohio. Family tradition says that Mary was of French and Indian ancestry and that James was a very good singer.
Henry Bell married Nancy D. Oliver (1871-1920). She was the daughter of Lrkin Oliver (1829-1901) and Elizabeth Brown (1843--death date unknown) of Bienville Parish. Elizabeth Brown was no relation to James Brown, grandfather of Henry, and the parents of both Larkin and Elizabeth are unknown. Nancy was a very kind lady and always opened her home to everyone.
The oldest son of Henry and Nancy was Henry Jackson Bell Jr. When Henry, Jr. was a young man, his father opened a letter from a young lady that was intended for him. Henry, Jr. decided that from that time on he would be known as Jackson Henry Bell, or Jackie. The other children were Minnie, Lavania, Edna, Tennie Lee, Eli, Nola, Oma and Mamie.
