Note: More About LEON DAWSON NORRID: Fact 1: Occupation - Pharmacist Fact 2: Bet. 1942 - 1945, USAF Fact 3: Church Affiliation - Evangelical Leon Dawson Norrid passed away Monday, August 23, 2004 following a long illness at Shiner Nursing & Rehab Center in Shiner at the age of 81. He was born in Wheeler, Texas, May 13, 1923 to the late Luther and Winnie Whitner Norrid. Received education in schools in Amarillo, Texas until his senior year and graduated from Daniel Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1941. During WWII, he served as a Flight Engineer in the Army Air Force. After he was discharged, he finished his education, graduating from the University of Texas College of Pharmacy in May 1951. He practiced pharmacy in Aransas Pass, Houston, and Austin, Texas. Prior to coming to Shiner, he owned and operated his own pharmacy at Canyon Lake, Texas until retirement in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Alma Grace Norrid and in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. B.D. Kirkpatrick and Mr. & Mrs. G. C. Minger of Shiner; a daughter, Gerilynn Norrid of Mexia and his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Norrid of Midland, Texas. As a member of Grace Bible Church in Canyon Lake, a memorial service is pending with Pastor Bill Colley officiating. Internment will be in Austin, Texas.
