  Obit from okchocta: John Paul Mathiews contributed by The Hugo Daily News Graveside services for John Paul Mathiews of Valliant were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Valliant Cemetery with Rev. Troy Ruffin officiating. Mr. Mathiews died July 4, 2005, in Valliant. He was 85. He owned and operated Mathiew’s Tire Shop - Valliant for many years. He was a member of Woodsmen of the World. He was born October 8, 1919 in Paris, Arkansas, the son of Herman Mathiews and Lena ( Pilgreen) Mathiews and had lived in Valliant for over 40 years. He married Jessie Hayworth in Valliant on February 18, 1940. She preceded him in death in 1995. He was also preceded in death by a son, Austin Furr and his brother, Jack Mathiews. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding 4-wheelers, and spending time with his family and friends. SURVIVING RELATIVES: his son and daughter in law, Bennie and Janette Mathiews of Valliant; Grandsons Larry Moyer, Eddie Moyer, and David Mathiews all of Valliant, Granddaughter Martha Alvarado of Valliant; 10 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren; his nieces, Patsy Schoen and Vicky Jeffus; and his nephew, Phillip Mathiews. Family received friends Wednesday July 6, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Miller & Miller Funeral Home - Valliant, Okla.
