Note: "Blackie") Winchester, 30, after Winchester had killed his wife, Viola Pavlicek Winchester, daughter of Pavlicek. The admission was made at an examining trial with County Attorney Burt Potter in charge. Mrs. Winchester had left her husband's home, and with her four small children made her home with her parents. Winchester called her out Monday night and an altercation followed, resulting in the double shooting. On hearing a shot fired in front of the house Pavlicek rushed out with his shot gun and saw his son-in-law leap from the car and fire again into the woman's body, he said. Pavlicek said he fired twice with his shotgun, first into Winchester's right leg, then into his head. Pavlicek was released on his own recognizance on bond of $100 to appear before the grand jury. The Winchesters leave four small children. (The San Antonio Light) The Corpus Christi TImes, Wednesday, August 25, 1937 Funeral Services Are Held Today For Slain Couple Mrs. Winchester Buried in Odem Cemetery Funeral services were being held today for J. T. Winchester, 29, and his wife, Mrs. Viola July Winchester, 27, victims of a double shooting at the farm home of Mrs. Winchester's father, John Pavlicek, Monday night. Services for Mrs. Winchester were held at 10 o'clock this morning at the Pavlicek farm, with the Rev. R. E. Towery of SInton officiating. Burial was in Odem Cemetery. Services for Mr. Winchester were scheduled for 3 o'clock this afternoon at the David T. Peel Funeral Home in Sinton. The Rev. Mr. Towery also was to officiate at this service. Coroner's verdicts in the two deaths showed that Mrs. Winchester was shot to death by her husband, and that Winchester was killed by gunshot wounds inflicted by the woman's father, John Pavlicek. Mr. Pavlicek, 61, surrendered to officers immediately after the double tragedy, and yesterday was released on $100 recognizance bond following his examining trial in Sinton. Mr. and Mrs. Winchester had four small children, and the fatal shootings were said to have been the result of an arguement which grew out of failure of the father to return the children to their mother after taking them for a ride. The children were at the home of Mr. Winchester's mother, near Sinton, at the time of the shootings.
