Note: Obituary in The Shreveport Times December 16, 2016: SHREVEPORT, LA - Memorial services celebrating the life of Barbara S. Thomas, 73, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Southern Hills Church of Christ, 9080 Southwood Dr., Shreveport, LA 71118. Rev. Joe Huffman will be officiating.
Barbara was born August 5, 1943 in Little Rock, AR to Charlie H. Smith, Jr. and Dorothy Mae Leamons Smith and went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2016. She loved doing her arts and crafts. Barbara was a long time member of Southern Hills Church of Christ and spent many days donating her efforts and time to running the food pantry, the annual school supply store for underprivileged children, meals on wheels and annual garage sale at the church. She was also a Sunday School teacher for several years.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Charlie Smith, Jr. She is survived by her son, Kevin Thomas and wife, Debbie of Garland, TX; daughter, Sharilyn Butler and husband, Stacey of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Devin Thomas, Nikki Jeansonne and Brandi Butler; sister, Regina Westmoreland and husband, Steve of Vancouver, WA; nephews, Nathan and Chuck Westmoreland both of Portland, OR, along with extended friends and family.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Christus-Schumpert Highland Medical Center and to Barbara’s church family for all the love, support and care they have given her.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to Carson’s Fund, c/o Southern Hills Church of Christ.
