Note: art attack. She was a beloved wife, mom, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who is already sorely missed by those who loved her. Born January 6, 1937 in Fouke, Arkansas, she was the youngest daughter of T. Terrell and Myrtle (Cutshall) Hines. She grew up in Texarkana, Arkansas and graduated from high school in 1955. She married her high school sweetheart, Billy Austin, on March 19, 1955 and after graduation she joined him in El Paso, Texas where he was stationed with the US Army. The Army sent them to Massachusetts and after Bill was discharged they moved to Texarkana, Arkansas and then on to Concord, California. After Bills retirement from Dupont in 1995, they moved to Monmouth, Oregon. Shirley was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word and provided daycare while raising their four children. She was a mother figure for numerous children over the years and many of them, even as adults, still called her "mom. She had a knack for making people feel welcomed and part of the family and never hesitated to invite and include those without a place to go for the holidays. Shirley was always ready to help others in need. Throughout the years, she was active in the church social committee and in TOPS. Down-to-earth, conservative, and practical, Shirley loved cooking, canning, gardening, and living in the country with her view of the valley, Mt. Jefferson, and Mt. Hood. She was preceded in death by her parents, T. Terrell and Myrtle Hines. Shirley is survived by her husband Bill and their children: Nanci Huyser (husband Gordon), Kilgore, Texas; Brenda Wenrich (husband Chris), Salem, Oregon; Teresa Tolzmann (husband Todd), Monmouth, Oregon; Larry Austin, Woodside, California; her sister, Lois Barlow, Carthage, Texas, and her six grandchildren: Tasha, Kent, Bryndan, Alyssa, Joshua, and Robbie. Visitation will be Thursday, December 7, 2006 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. Graveside service will be Friday, December 8, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Fir Crest Cemetery, Monmouth, Oregon. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the Independence First Baptist Church. Donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission or to Hope House Childrens Home in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center.
