Notes for LUCRETIA WATLEY:
According to Geneva Neal Mayes, Lucretia lived with her mother, Eliza Brown Watley after Lucretia and her husband, Sherwood Easley, separated/divorced.
Geneva Mayes said Lucretia had two sons. (Apparently she also had a daughter--see remainder of notes.)
On November 6, 1983, I went to to see Lucretia (Cressie) Easley at the Virginia Hall Nursing Home in Shreveport, La. (This is where Elizabeth Jordan had told me she was when I met her in May 1982. Elizabeth had said Cressie had a very good memory.) On the day I went to visit Cressie, a nurse told me she had died about two months before. She said Ms Easley was from the Sarepta/Springhill area. She also said that Joe Stampley, the country singer, is her grandson. Joe and his wife are separated, but she still lived in Springhill, La. at that time.
In an article from The News-Star Monroe, La.) dated June 24, 1988 featuring Joe Stampley who is a country music star, it states he is a native of Springhill, La. He lives in Nashville, TN. He graduated from Springhill High School in 1961; however, he made his first record in 1958.
The article stated he and his wife, Jo Lynn, have three children---Tony who was born about 1963, Terry Jo who was born about 1965, and Tim who was born about 1968. (Tony was 25, Terry Jo was 23, and Tim was 20.) It also mentioned he had a stepson, William Wallace, 23, by Jo Lynn's previous marriage. So he may have also been previously married.
The article further stated that Joe came from a family in which, "My Dad and Mom played a little guitar and sang a little bit, and my grandfather, Bob Stampley, was a vocal teacher in Plain Dealing (La.)". (from Sheila Johnson's notes)
