The son of Percy and Dellie Goff Slater, he was born Dec. 11, 1941, in Junction City. He was a log truck driver for various logging companies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Cecil Slater; two sisters, Sue Helms and Kathleen Bishop; and an infant daughter, Lisa Ann Slater.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Leamons Slater of Arkadelphia; two sons, Ricky Slater of Arkadelphia and SFC Michael Slater and his wife Melissa, of Fort Drum, N.Y.; a brother, Luther Slater of Glen Rose, Texas; four sisters, Inez Collins of Marxhall, texas, Mary Owens of Junction City, Alice Slater of Springhill, La., and Velma Parker of Parkers Chapel; and three grandchildren, Dustin, Kelsey and Ricki Slater.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of Bailey Funeral Home with interment to follow in Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
