Dear Cousin, I have been trying to get all the info together for you. Since my computer crashed some of the info you asked about was on the computer and I lost most of it.. O. K. here goes:
"The Outlaw Neal married young Dulcey Thomas in Bienville Parish at Mt. Olive, LA They moved near Coushatta, Red River Parish, LA. She had "Willie" {William Allen} and when he was 4 or 5 she died of yellow fever. We do not know where he buried her or if he did or as his usual pattern, jump up and run when things got too hot. The authorities would not let him bring her across parish lines. He came back to Bienville Parish and married Minnie Pearl Walker, my grandma Allie Brown's half sister, She was the daughter of John Fletcher walker and Unk. Davis. Mr. Walker was a drunk and never told his children what their mother's name was as they were small when she died. Neal came in and out of Aunt Minnie and the childrens life like a carnival [once a year, just long enough to add another child to the family]. While my grandparents were living in Ballinger, Tx they kept Minnie and the children fed. They were renting one room that she and the children were living in and the children would work around the farm to pay the rent.
My grandparents came back to Louisisana in 1931 and that had been Aunt Minnie's dream to return to La. The children had second- picked cotton until their hands were bleeding from the burrs on the cotton bolls and had enough money for the train trip. One of the kids told their dad when they saw him in town that they were riding the train back to see Uncle John and Aunt Allie in La. So he was smart enough to know that they had money. He went and spent the night with them and talked Aunt Minnie in to giving him the money and he would go into town and rent them a place for all of them to live together. He got the money and the woman that was waiting for him [Myrtle] and headed to the panhandle. I never could find divorce records from Aunt Minnie or marriage records of he and Myrtle Rippentoe. I also found them in the 1930 Census. Neal and Myrtle show back up in La. in the Late 40's and the family made an effort to forgive him. The ladies had a hard time with Myrtle because she was a fancy dresser and painted up and did not know how to work in the garden.
Back to Minnie and her children. The oldest son, Herman Fletcher came back to La and lived with my grandparents until he went into service in WWII. A daughter and son ended up in Houston and did well. The youngest son, disappeared and grandma always thought he was in prison, Ruth Bell was living in Ballinger Area in 1945 as that is where Aunt Minnie died of social disease that was brought home to her. The son was in service so Grandpa rode the train from La to Ballinger to bury her and he had a lot in Ballinger Cem[Evergreen ] where he had purchased a lot in 1925 to bury his 16 year old son that drown in Colorado River there in Ballinger. I am happy you found Ruth Bell. She had a baby buried by her mother, Aunt Minnie in Evergreen Cem. Enough of this!
The cemetery at Liberty Hill is found by typing in Liberty Hill Cem, Bienville Parish, LA. You will need to scroll down about 5-6 items and you will see Gloria Mayfields name and Maxine Blake Morgan. You will see the first # listing the cemeteries. There is 3 cemeteries around the church. This one is across the road, the newest is to the right looking at the church and the other one is to the left of the church and it is listed as old cem. There is another cemetery connected to the church and it is Taylor Cemetery.
Grandpa Brown's sister Ida and Ada are buried in unmarked graves at Ebenezer Cem near Bienville, LA I have never founf a marriage record for Jasper and Savanna. Ida was born in 1874. so giving them a year the date would be 1873. If you do not find the cemetery in Liberty Hill Let me know. Also, Grandpa Browns youngest brother and his wife is also buried where Annie Bell and Ellis Potts are buried. Their names are Jasper Leander and Lettie Bell Potts Brown. These siblings maried brothers and sisters.
Hope all this rambling does not scare you off. Your Cousin, Doris
he was 4 or 5 is when Dulcey died of Yellow Hi, Mollie b, 8-11-1875 and d.9-22-1955 mar. William Henry Meyer(s), b. 11-1-1874 and d. 10-17-1942. They are both buried at Antioch Presb. Church Cem in Jackson Parish . All the Meyer(s) are their relatives-. One son Clyde and his children are buried there also. Their daughter, Inez Brinson is Buried at Camp Ground Cem in Bienville Parish, LA. I don't recall hearing the other daughter's name. A grandson of Mollies lives in Jonesboro, LA named Bobbie Clyde Brinson. He might could help you on his grandmothers sister. Tell him I sent you, His telephome # is 318/259-4543. He has email, but I do not have his address. I met the son of Willie White several years ago and someone had told him that we were related, he died several years ago. H told me of the story that Brinceys father was not a Bell. Ddoris (e-mail received 8-1-09 from Doris Hennigan)
Micheal, There is a possibility that Brency's mom married Ezekial and Brincey was not his. Yes, Uncle Jack Bell took his mothers married name. His father was a Chestnutt. My gr grand father Wm Jasper Brown had no know dad and he also had a sister.that married a Watley.. His mom was the oldest girl. We always felt like we were supposed to be Bells. Uncle Jack lived across the road in his later years from my parents and grand parents, John and Allie Brown, Son of Jasper and Savanna Brown. I used to hear Gr Pa & uncle Jack say "Cudn John ,we are closer kin than any one knows. Uncle Jack's family members are aware of this info as Gr Pa Jasper had a sister that recorded the same info I gave you to a relative of Jacks. I searched for years for the Brown.s and my aunt told a story that the Brown's walked from Ga after the Civil War. I finally confronted my aunt and my mom with" o. k., either they were criminials or illegit"My mom said,.patting her chest,"oh.. Grpa was such a sweet man we didn't want that told. I assured them the children are not to blame for the mother's actions. So that is two out of that group who had fatherless children. Also, the Mr.White man I mentioned told me the same story. He said Mr. Bell was not Brency's dad. I can't think of anything else right now. In the 1870 Bienville Parish census Brincey was listed as 6 years old and Jack was 3 years old. I know her monument says 1862 .My grandfather Blalock and his twin was born In July 1880 and when their baby sister died her family had her birthdate as Feb 1881. This would have been pushing it pretty close. Also, this would make her Mr Bell's child by changing the date .. I will close for now. Doris. (e-mail received 8-2-2009 from Doris Hennigan.)
