Notes
a. Note:   RV Shuping January 7, 1926 - March 15, 2018
RV Shuping went into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the age of 92.
RV was born on January 7, 1926 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Rufus Virgil and Hattie Minerva Shuping.
He went to Tipton High School in Oklahoma and moved to Planada, California as a teenager with his family. He worked as a laborer before enlisting in the Army near the end of World War II. He served in the Philippines and in Japan after the war ended and played on an Army baseball team while serving overseas.
When he returned, he went to work for the Merced County Public Works Department in the Road Division. He retired from the county in 1983 after 31 years.
RV and his family attended Planada Community Church and later First Baptist Church of Merced, It's Not Your Mama's Church and The Clay Church. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and a greeter/usher.
It was as a greeter that RV truly used his gifts. He welcomed everyone with a smile and engaging personality. He always had a story to share and displayed God's unconditional love.
One of his weekly routines was to have breakfast with a group of people at Denny's where he befriended, shared stories and laughs with the servers, managers and other regulars.
He loved time with his family. It wasn't unusual to have dozens of people at his home for any holiday. All of his relatives looked forward to the softball games in the open area near his home, hitting golf balls into the pasture, shooting clay pigeons and sitting under the huge walnut tree.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Joyce Shuping; his brother, Herman Lloyd Shuping; and his sister Helen Louise Pilcher. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son Mark Shuping, daughter-in-law DeeDee, daughter Susan Nishizaki, son-in-law Bob; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his stepsons, Richard Davis, and Mark Davis; and stepdaughters, Melody Minor, Hope Pouliat, and Penny Hunter, as well as their 13 children, and 2 grandchildren.
A celebration of RV's life will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Merced, 500 Buena Vista Drive, Merced, CA. A private family graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
