 Claud Pilcher 94, of Merced, died peacefully, surrounded by family on October 17, 2015. He was born in Hatfield, Ark and raised in Lone Oak, Texas. He had four brothers and one sister. His parents and all his siblings preceded him in death. He was a veteran of WWII, Army Air Corp, and served from 1942-1946, spending his last year of service in Italy. After returning to his home in Merced, Ca, he met his future bride, Helen Shuping, they were married in January 1947 and spent the next 64 years side by side in all they did. She was the love of his life and he was left broken hearted by her passing in February 2011. They were blessed by one daughter, Patty. He is survived by his daughter; Patty Turner and husband Keith, grandchildren; Korey Turner and wife Rebecca, and Shelly Covert. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren; Natalie Covert, Andrew and Brevin Nannini and Kylie Turner, and many other family members and friends who loved him dearly. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man with a strong work ethic and love for others. We like to extend our greatest appreciation to Dr. Bill Pratt and the nurses of Dignity Mercy Health Care of Merced, Ca, and Amy Marchini from Park Merced for his short stay there. A celebration of life with be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced, Ca, with burial to immediately follow at Plainsburg Cemetery.
