Note: BURKS, James Winston James Winston Burks of Garland, TX died on Dec. 8, 2017, in Cedar Park, TX. He was born August 7, 1927, to Sanford Wesley Burks and Melissa Almeda Wadkins in Ballinger, Texas. Winston married Ada Lou Leamons on April 14, 1962 in Garland, TX. He was a dispatcher in the gas control department for Lone Star Gas for over 41 years, after having worked on pipelines across Texas for Lone Star Gas for some years prior. Ada Lou recruited Winston to join her as a volunteer with Medical City Hospital, and he served Medical City for 10 years. Winston was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He served in the Texas State Guard from 1943 to 1944, and the US Navy from 1945-1946 as a Seaman. Winston is survived by his daughter, Jeri Burks Milo and her husband Scott Milo of Cedar Park, TX; son Jeffery Wayne Burks and his wife Vanessa Burks of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughter, Natalie Marie Martinez (29) of New Orleans, LA; grandsons, Jaxon Wesley Burks (7) and Jensen Wolfgang Burks (2) of Fort Worth, TX. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ada Lou Burks. Winston loved people, fishing, and had an insatiable desire for information. He had deep roots in Garland, TX, having lived in the same house for 55 years, while at the same time sustaining his family ties in Ballinger, TX with periodic fishing trips and family reunions. Winston was handy, independent, and was proud of having served his beloved country during WWII. Funeral service will be on Sat., Dec. 16, at 2:30 PM in the Memorial Chapel at RFH.
