Obituary: The Valliant Leader; Valliant, McCurtain, OK; Issue: Jul 1985 William Joshua Spence William Joshua Spence, 84, Valliant, died Tuesday at his home. Spence was born July 16, 1901 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He was a Protestant. He moved to Valliant in 1904 and grew up in McCurtain County. After living elsewhere for 30 years, he moved back in 1975 and lived here since then. William and Corine Blackburn were married June 24, 1937 in Mena, Ark. Survivors include his wife, Corine, of the home; one son, Thurman Spence, Valliant; three daughters, Mikey Lee Stowers, Wenatchee, Wash., Ruby Jean Wiliams and Thelma Faye Hoves, both of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Jessie Mathiews, Valliant, Vada Mitchell and Tressie Barker, both of Olive Hurst, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral servies were held Friday in the Valliant Assembly of God Church with Dr. T. C. Burkett officiating. Burial followed in the Valliant Cemetery under the direction of Coffey-Leonard Funeral Home of Idabel.
