Note: e 26, 1923 to John and Carrie Case. At the age of 16, she married J.D. “Smokey” Freeman, also of Arkansas, on Nov. 12, 1939. The Freemans soon moved to California and began a family. Eventually settling in Ridgecrest, Calif., they began building many businesses, including Valley View Airpark, Smokey’s Shell Station, Garage and Napa Auto Parts, as well as the Bar-S Motel. Louise kept the books for all these businesses, while husband J.D. provided the muscle. Mrs. Freeman was also a very accomplished seamstress. She made clothes for all of her children and many of their friends, including many formals for her daughters. She also made most of the wedding and bridesmaid’s gowns for her children’s weddings. It was once said that she would still be sewing the beads on by hand as the girl walked down the aisle. Louise was also known to make parade costumes, not only for people, but also bridles for many of the horses as well. She also enjoyed writing poetry and short stories and shared many of these with family and friends. Finally retiring in 1980, the Freemans moved to Onyx, Calif., where Louise was often seen working out in her garden. She loved her garden full of flowers, vegetables and fruit and enjoyed canning and pickling most of her produce. As a member of the Weldon Baptist Church, she would provide floral arrangements for Sunday service, whether she could attend that day or not. Louise was preceded in death by husband J.D. Freeman; all of her younger siblings Robert Case, John Case and Zelda Thompson; daughter Linda and son-in-law Charles Malear Sr.; granddaughter Jeanne Freeman; granddaughter-in-law Deborah Pullin; and great-grandchildren Jesse and Rebecka Pullin. She is survived by daughter Judith and husband Kenneth Pullin; son James Freeman and wife Nancy; daughter Lola and husband John Edwards; grandson Michael Pullin and wife Lynne; grandson Thomas Pullin; granddaughter Ann and husband Kalvin Goldsberry; grandson Matthew Freeman and wife Lisa; grandson John Freeman; granddaughter Veronica and husband Dennis Hamlet; grandson Charles Malear Jr. and wife Julie; grandson John Malear; adopted grandchildren Crystal and husband Aaron Sanders; Jackie Carnathan; John Carnathan IV; Justin Smith; Danielle and husband Joseph Escobar; Sarah and husband Shane Peal; grandson Jeffrey Steiber and wife Sherry; grandson Joel Steiber; as well as 22 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Louise was an amazingly compassionate and prayerful lady who will be missed very much. Louise C. Freeman fell asleep in death on Feb. 8, 2014, at the age of 90, in Weldon, Calif. surrounded by family. Her memorial service was held Feb. 15, 2014, at the Weldon Baptist Church with Pastor Darrow Elconin officiating. She was buried at Desert Memorial Park in Ridgecrest, Calif.
